Independent Review Panel Denies Sporting Kansas City Appeal

Published on March 12, 2015 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK, NY (March 12, 2015) - This week, Sporting Kansas City filed an appeal for review of the second yellow card and subsequent dismissal of defender Matt Besler in the 70th minute of the March 8 game against the New York Red Bulls (VIDEO).

An independent review panel consisting of one representative from the U.S. Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association and one representative of the Professional Referees Organization (PRO), were not unanimous that the referee incorrectly identified the offense or that the sanction applied was incorrect.

As a result, Besler will serve his one-match suspension and will miss his team's next match against FC Dallas on March 14 at Toyota Stadium (8:30 p.m. ET).

Per League policy, Sporting Kansas City will have one more unsuccessful appeal for any send-off review during the 2015 season.
