Maine Celtics News Release

Newark, DE - January 23, 2015 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, fought hard to get back in the game, but wound up losing to Delaware in overtime, 114-108.

Maine (17-7) has lost two in a row for just the second time this season, but the Claws were in it right to the end. Rodney McGruder led the Red Claws with a season high 24 points on 10-14 shooting. Tim Frazier finished with 23 points, and Omari Johnson added 21. Andre Dawkins, making his Red Claws debut after the Boston Celtics signed him to a 10-day contract then assigned him to Maine, finished with 9 points on 4-18 shooting (1-13 from three point range).

Tied at 28 after the first quarter, Delaware (10-13) went on a 31-22 run in the 2nd quarter to take a 9 point lead at the break. Maine chipped away, clawing back to a tie and even briefly taking the lead in the 4th quarter. Christian Watford tipped in a shot with :06.7 left in the 4th to tie the game at 104 and eventually force overtime. Watford finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds.

The OT was all Delaware. The 87ers out-scored Maine 10-4, including back-to-back three pointers by D.J. Seeley and Jared Cunningham, which put the game away for good.

The Red Claws shot 43% (41-95) from the floor, but only 26% (11-42) from downtown. Maine also missed 7 free throws (15-22) in the loss.

Since its 8-game winning streak, the Claws are 5-5. Maine gets no break - the Red Claws return home tomorrow night to face the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Sioux Falls just beat Maine at the D-League Showcase, and is one of just two teams to have beaten the Red Claws twice this season. It is a 7 p.m. tip-off tomorrow at the Portland Expo.
