Grand Rapids Drive News Release
Fort Wayne, December 13, 2014 - The Fort Wayne Mad Ants (6-6) avenged Friday's last-second loss to the Grand Rapids Drive (5-5) by winning the rematch today by a score of 101-87.
The Mad Ants led for almost the entire game, never trailing after the six-minute mark of the first quarter. They took a nine-point lead at halftime and expanded it sizably in the third quarter, where they scored 29 points and held the Drive to just 14.
Veteran forward Andre Emmett, who piled up 22 points and six rebounds to lead Fort Wayne, excelled attacking the basket with 11 free-throw attempts. Russ Smith, on assignment from the New Orleans Pelicans, chipped in another strong game off the bench with 19 points and six assists.
The Mad Ants were also helped out by a huge turnover margin caused in part by their swarming defense; Grand Rapids coughed up the ball 18 times, giving them a two-game total of 38 turnovers. The Mad Ants had just eight turnovers.
Lorenzo Brown had a big game for the Drive, putting up a season-high 22 points and connecting on nine out of sixteen shots. Brandon Fields and Manny Atkins chipped in 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Grand Rapids brought the deficit, which was as large as 25 at one point, down to 12 midway through the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late.
The Mad Ants are in action again when they take on the Skyforce in Sioux Falls on December 16. The Drive's next game is also on the road, against the Iowa Energy on December 19.
