Mad Ants Fall at the Buzzer

FORT WAYNE, IN (December 12, 2014) -Despite a late fourth quarter comeback, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants fell to the Grand Rapids Drive Friday evening at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum by a score of 99-101.
The Mad Ants controlled much of the first half of play leading by as much as eight, but the Drive kept the game close to end the first half down 48-49 in favor of Fort Wayne. Brandon Fields led the Drive with 13 points at the end of the first half, and Andre Emmett finished the first half with 10 points for the Mad Ants.
It was all Grand Rapids late in the third quarter, as they found themselves progressing toward an eventual 15 point lead. With a little over four minutes left on the game clock, the Mad Ants found themselves down just 6. New Orleans Pelican assignee, Russ Smith, hit a key lay-up with 20 seconds left on the game clock to draw the foul and create a 99-99 tie with 7 seconds left to play. As time wound down, Adonis Thomas hit the deciding jumper for the Drive that would be the dagger for the game and a hard loss for the Mad Ants.
Thomas finished the game with 33 points to lead the Drive. Brandon Fields added 20, while Willie Reed proceeded to lead the team with 11 rebounds.
For the Mad Ants, Smith led the team with 16 points, while CJ Fair contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds of his own.
