Kitchener Rangers News Release

Mike Davies scored the game winner as the Kitchener Rangers defeated the Guelph Storm 4-1 on Tuesday night. Nick Magyar, Ryan MacInnis and Brent Pedersen also scored for the Rangers, who have earned points in five consecutive games.

The Rangers opened the scoring less than five minutes into the game, taking advantage of their first power play opportunity of the night. Sophomore Nick Magyar tracked a rebound beside the Guelph net, shoveling it by start Justin Nichols to collect his second goal in three games. The Mentor, OH native has three goals in two meetings with the Storm this season. Assists on the play were credited to rearguards Dmitrii Sergeev and Max Iafrate, who extends his recent point streak to a fourth game.

The Rangers out-shot Guelph 12-6 in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Robby Fabbri put the Storm on the board with less than seven minutes to play in the second period, squeaking a puck past Greenfield to draw even at 1-1. The third-year veteran has four goals in three games since he was returned to the club by the St. Louis Blues. Tyler Bertuzzi and import rearguard Phil Baltisberger picked up helpers on the play.

Kitchener continued to lead shots on goal in the second period by a 9-7 margin.

The deadlock persisted until the 6:45 mark of the third period, when second-year winger Mike Davies went hard to the net, knocking Dmitrii Sergeev's long shot past Nichols. His second of the year was also assisted by Brandon Robinson.

Ryan MacInnis added an insurance goal just over two minutes later, lifting a backhand shot over the left pad of Nichols for his fifth of the season. The power play goal was assisted by Justin Bailey, extending the Buffalo Sabres prospect's point streak to a ninth game. Frank Hora also earned a helper on the tally at 8:55.

With 32 seconds remaining on the clock, veteran winger Brent Pedersen raced the puck out of the neutral zone and buried it in an empty Guelph net to secure a 4-1 victory. The Carolina Hurricanes prospect's second goal of the season was assisted by winger Darby Llewellyn.

The Rangers led shots on goal 15-10 in the third period, finishing with a 36-23 overall advantage. With the victory, the club improves to 2-0 against the Storm this season.
