Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders return to action after a bye week with a visit to Investors Group Field on Saturday and a date with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Kickoff for the Week 17 contest is 5 p.m. MDT.
Calgary carries a league-best 12-2 record into the contest and the Stampeders can clinch first place in the West Division with a victory.
The Stamps are 7-0 coming off a bye week since John Hufnagel became head coach and general manager in 2008, with the most recent triumph coming on July 12 when Calgary downed Toronto 34-15 after being idle Week 2.
Prior to this latest bye, the Stamps claimed a 31-24 victory against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina. It was the Red and White's second win in a row and the club's eighth victory in the past nine games.
The Stamps lead the CFL with a 6-1 road record while the Blue Bombers are 3-4 at home.
Winnipeg is 6-9 overall and is currently mired in a six-game losing streak with the latest setback coming by a 41-9 score on Monday in Edmonton.
This is the first regular-season meeting of the 2014 season between Calgary and Winnipeg, who are back together in the same division for the first time since 2005. The Bombers were in the East Division from 2006-13 but returned to their traditional place in the West thanks to the arrival of the expansion Ottawa RedBlacks.
Calgary takes a nine-game winning streak against the Bombers into Saturday's contest. The Stamps haven't lost to Winnipeg since July 10, 2009.
The Stamps' next home action is on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. when the Saskatchewan Roughriders will provide the opposition.
