Defending WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx to be Honored by President Obama at the White House

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - On Thursday, June 12, the Minnesota Lynx will visit the White House and President Barack Obama in recognition of the team's 2013 WNBA Championship. The President will honor the team's memorable 2013 season. The event will be live streamed at www.whitehouse.gov/live or at lynxbasketball.com .
The Lynx had a historic 2013 season, becoming just the fourth team in WNBA history to reach the WNBA Finals in three consecutive seasons (Houston, 1997-2000; Los Angeles, 2001-03; Detroit, 2006-08). The Lynx became the fifth team to win two WNBA championship within a three-year span, a group that also includes Houston (1997-98-99-2000), Los Angeles (2001-02), Detroit (2006,2008) and Phoenix (2007, 2009). Minnesota finished the postseason with a perfect 7-0 record, becoming just the second team in WNBA history to go 7-0 in postseason play (Seattle, 2010). Additionally, Minnesota finished 4-0 at home, improving to a WNBA-record 14-2 (.875) at Target Center in franchise postseason history, which stands as the best home winning percentage in WNBA postseason history.
Minnesota (26-8) became just the third team in league history to string together three consecutive 25+ win seasons (Houston, 1998-00; Los Angeles, 2000-02). Minnesota's 80 wins over the past three regular seasons matched the second-highest three-year win total in WNBA history (Los Angeles won 95 between 2000-02; Houston won 94 in 1998-2000). Including post season play, Minnesota's 99 wins since the start of 2011 is the highest aggregate three-three win total in league history (Los Angeles won 95 between 2000-02; Houston won 94 in 1998-2000).
