Mavericks' Henrik Odegaard and Eric Castonguay Called-Up by Chicago WolvesApril 18, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Missouri Mavericks
"Both Henrik and Eric are very deserving of this opportunity to play in the AHL," said Mavericks Head Coach Scott Hillman. "They both competed extremely hard all season for us and they are the types of players that have the ability to succeed at a higher level. Their work ethic and determination will serve them well and we wish them great success while with our affiliate in Chicago."
Odegaard joined the Mavericks at the top of the 2013-14 season after playing just one game with the Wolves. The Mavs signed the talented defensive defenseman to a standard player contract shortly after his arrival in Independence, Missouri where he became an integral part of the Mavericks' 2013-14 Regular Season Championship team. Odegaard missed several games midway through the Mavericks' season as he participated in the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, representing his home country of Norway.
Odegaard finished the regular season with 1 goal, 3 assists, -4 and 62 penalty minutes.
Eric Castonguay, in his first year with the Missouri Mavericks, quickly became a fan favorite, consistently netting game-winning goals and working well alongside fellow Quebec native and Mavericks' Team Captain Sebastien Thinel. Castonguay led the team in goals through a majority of the regular season, teeter-tottering with teammate Andrew Courtney. The 26 year old forward broke the Missouri Mavericks' single-season goal record with his 31st and final goal of the regular season on March 23rd vs the Quad City Mallards. (Courtney went on to set the new team record at 34 goals).
Castonguay finished the regular season with 31 goals, 52 assists, +22, and 20 penalty minutes. He ranked among the top 10 scoring leaders in the Central Hockey League for a majority of the season and was named the second-most gentlemanly player in the league for the annual "Best of the Best" CHL awards, behind teammate Mike Ramsay.
The Missouri Mavericks' playoff season came to an abrupt end on Tuesday night when the Mavs fell in double overtime to the Arizona Sundogs in Game 6 of the opening round. The Mavericks will host a special End of Season Celebration on Friday, April 18th at the Independence Events Center, sponsored by Long John Silvers and A&W. Fans will have the opportunity to get player autographs and bid on one-of-a-kind Mavericks memorabilia as they say goodbye to the team before they separate for the off-season.
