Tulsa Drillers News Release

The Tulsa Drillers return to ONEOK Field Tuesday, August 20 to begin their final homestand of the 2013 regular season. With the second-half title still up for grabs, the Drillers will play seven crucial games against Texas League North Division opponents Arkansas and Springfield to close out their regular season home schedule.

Eddie Butler and the Tulsa Drillers will be back in action at ONEOK Field on August 20 to begin their final homestand of the season. (Rich Crimi) Tulsa will first host the Travelers (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) in a four-game series August 20-23 before finishing the stand with three games against the Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) August 24-26.

The Drillers are 5-7 against the Travelers at home this season and 6-5 when playing the Redbirds at ONEOK Field.

Tyler Matzek has pitched particularly well against the Travs this season, going 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA in four starts. Meanwhile, Cristhian Adames is batting .367 (22-60) off Cardinals pitching this season.

First pitch for all seven games is set for 7:05PM.

Some of the great promotions scheduled for the homestand will include Oktoberfest/Thirsty Thursday on August 22, back-to-back fireworks shows on August 23 and 24 and a Drillers Superhero Cape Giveaway on Souvenir Sunday, August 25.

On Souvenir Sunday, August 25 the first 500 fans, ages 12 and under, to enter the stadium through the Arvest and Oil Derrick Entrances with a paid admission will receive Drillers Super Hero Capes.

The final regular season home game of 2013 will feature Purple Monday and Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Night on August 26.

A complete list of upcoming promotions is below.

Individual tickets to all seven games are now available online at TulsaDrillers.com, in person at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office (201 N. Elgin Avenue) or over the phone by calling (918) 744-5901.

DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE: Through games of August 14, the Drillers still had four infielders leading their respective positions in fielding. Kiel Roling led all first basemen with a .995 fielding percentage, Angelys Nina topped all second basemen at .981, Jayson Langfels led the third basemen with a .964 mark and Cristhian Adames was the top fielding shortstop with a .970 percentage. In addition, Tulsa's team fielding percentage of .981 was leading the Texas League.

TOO CLOSE TO CALL: Heading into the final two weeks of the season, all four teams in the North Division still had a chance at winning the second-half crown. On August 15, only one game separated the four teams in the standings with Tulsa, Arkansas and Springfield tied for first place and Northwest Arkansas only one game behind.

OFFENSIVE OUTBURST: After struggling at the plate for most of the year, Tulsa's bats have caught fire in August. As of Wednesday, five players were batting above .300 in the month, led by Kyle Parker who has posted a .388 average to go along with 5 home runs and 15 RBI. As a team, the Drillers hit.280 through the first 11 games of the month, nearly 40 points better than their season average and almost 20 points higher than the next-best team in the Texas League.

DRILLERS LIKE HOMERING AT HOME: ONEOK Field opened in 2010. From 2010 to 2012, the Drillers experienced a slight "home field advantage" in the power department, hitting three more home runs in Tulsa than on the road (197-194). In 2013, however, the Drillers have gone yard 64 times in their four-year old downtown home as opposed to just 39 times on the road.
