Marion, IL - Southern Illinois Miners shortstop Tyler Stubblefield had his contract purchased by the San Diego Padres today. Stubblefield will be reporting to the Padres Single-A team in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He played with the TinCaps last season and in 2011. Stubblefield is one of 26 Miners in the history of the organization to have their contract selected by a major league organization.

"We could not be happier for Stubbie to get another opportunity with a major league organization", said Miners manager Mike Pinto. "He has done a great job for us while he has been here. On the field, he has been tremendous at shortstop and the plate. Off the field, he is been a great ambassador of Miners baseball in our community. We pride ourselves on the number of guys that move to organizations and I am sure he will be the first of a few others this year."

This season, Stubblefield hit .305 in 27 games with two home runs and 12 runs batted in. He recorded 32 total hits; eleven doubles and one triple. He walked ten times, scored 16 runs and stole three bases. His on-base percentage of .376 led the team.

Stubblefield was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 22nd round of the 2010 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft out of Kennesaw StateUniversity.

The Southern Illinois Miners congratulates Tyler Stubblefield on his return to the Fort Wayne TinCaps of the San Diego Padres Organization!
