Javier Baez Named FSL Player of the Week

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Florida State League announced, Monday, that Cubs shortstop Javier Baez was named Florida State League Player of the Week for the week ending June 16th.

Baez, 20, hit four home runs in Monday's game against Fort Myers to tie a FSL record. He also drove in seven runs in the game, a career-high for the Bayamon, PR native. Overall during the week, Baez went 4-for-13 with the four home runs and seven RBIs, and also drew three walks. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.231.

Baez also had two of the four FSL North hits in the All-Star game on Saturday in Dunedin. Both of Baez' hits were doubles.

Overall in the month of June, Baez is hitting .385 (15-for-39) with five home runs, 15 RBIs and five doubles. He has walked five times and struck out six times after striking out 55 times through April and May and drawing only nine walks.

This is the second time this season Baez has been named FSL Player of the Week. He also was named Player of the Week for the week ending April 28th.

Baez was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round (ninth overall) in the 2011 draft.
