Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA -The Inland Empire 66ers (34-31) scored in bunches early Tuesday night at San Manuel Stadium, and found a way to hold off the power-hitting Stockton Ports (35-30) 6 -4 in the second-to-last home game before the all-star break. Zach Borenstein recorded his league leading 15th home run of the season, and Michael Morin recorded his 10th save of the season, notching a perfect one-two- three frame giving the 66ers their fourth-straight.

Pressure was applied right away from the 66ers against Ports starter Devyi Jimenez. Inland Empire loaded the bases in the first but failed to score. In the 2nd the Ports were not so lucky. The 66ers mounted another rally thanks to a catchers interference from Phil Pohl. Then with two outs, Eric Stamets Sounded the Horn for the first run of the night on an RBI single plating Andy Workman. Workman got on base with a single, extending his hit streak to seven games.

The Ports struck next when Max Muncy delivered an RBI single to right field ending the 66ers consecutive scoreless streak at 22 innings and extending his team lead with his 55th RBI on the year, tying the game at one in the top of the third.

Zach Borenstein responded the next half inning by blasting his first home run in nearly two weeks in the bottom of the third for his 15th homerun on the season, giving the 66ers the 2-1 lead. The 66ers continued to pound the Ports as Abel Baker singled sharply to right field on the first pitch, driving in Michael Snyder.

Then with two outs in the frame, leadoff man Zach Wright smacked a single to right with two strikes allowing Abel Baker to score after avoiding the tag at the plate with a crafty hook slide, making it 4-1 in favor of the 66ers.

The bats continued to flourish as Zach Borenstein collected his second hit of the contest, tripling to right-center driving in Alex Yarbrough. The RBI triple awarded every fan in attendance free Tacos from Jack in the Box, giving the 66ers their fifth run of the contest.

Mark Sappington (6-3) was rolling through his first four innings but encountered some trouble in his final frame on the bump. Antonio Lamas blasted his fifth homerun of the season, over the Angels sign in left center, cutting the 66ers lead 6-2.

The next two hitters, Max Muncy and Tony Thompson, sent Andy Workman to the warning track in center. Luckily for the home squad, neither shot left San Manuel Stadium preserving the lead. Sappington finished the night going five innings strong, allowing two runs on six hits racking in his sixth victory on the year.

Following the fifth inning full of missed opportunities, the Ports connected on two long balls off Carmine Giardina cutting into the 66ers four-run lead.

The explosion started when Dusty Robinson crushed his ninth homerun of the year. Then on the next pitch, Phil Pohl put one on the lawn in left field cutting the lead to 6-4, the closest the Ports would get on the night.

In the top of the seventh the Ports had two runners on base, including the tying run at second. Reliever Eduardo Santos faced Budweiser Strikeout Batter of the Game Dusty Robinson and got the job done, getting him down on strikes rewarding the crowd by ending the Ports final comeback attempt.

The 66ers will look to put the magic touch on a three-game sweep of the Stockton Ports tomorrow during Awful Night at San Manuel Stadium. For more information on upcoming promotions, 66ers tickets or to schedule your next fun filled group outing, contact the 66ers front office at (909)888-9922.
