MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Lynx today announced that the team's game on Thursday, June 6 vs. Phoenix will be "Dribble to Stop Diabetes" night. As part of the league's 2013 "Dribble to Stop Diabetes" initiative, the Lynx will encourage fans to live an active, healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about type 2 diabetes prevention management.
The night will feature an on-court dribbling contest with kids, an information booth in the Lynx Party Zone providing fans with educational materials and public service announcements that will be played on the scoreboard throughout the night. Experts will also be on hand to talk with fans about the importance of healthy, active lifestyles, as well as diabetes awareness, prevention and management.
The National Basketball Association (NBA), the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the NBA Development League are all collaborating with the American Diabetes Association and Sanofi US to create awareness for this disease. Diabetes is a growing epidemic in the United States with recent estimates projecting that as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes by 2050.
