Lancaster Stormers News Release

On an unseasonably chilly night, the Lancaster Barnstormers used timely hitting and four double play ground balls to cool off the Sugar Land Skeeters, 6-2, at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Lancaster is now 3-1 on the current homestand and back to within two games of .500 overall.

The Barnstormers reached Jason Lane (3-1) for four runs in the bottom of the third. Kody Kirkland opened the inning with a single through the right side. Blake Gailen doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third, but Lane started to fight back. The left-hander got Jerry Owens to ground to shortstop Anthony Granato, who threw out Kirkland at the plate. Olmo Rosario's fly ball to left got cut short in a tricky wind, and Gailen was unable to score from third. Lane walked Travis Denker to bring on Ryan Harvey. The Lancaster right fielder responded by clearing center fielder Adam Godwin and cleaning off the bases with a three-run double. Daryle Ward followed with a single to right center to score Harvey for the 4-0 lead.

Dominic Ramos followed a Michael Rockett double with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth, cutting half off the Lancaster lead. Those would be the only runs off left-hander Lenny DiNardo (3-3), who gave up six hits and three walks in seven innings of work.

Lancaster re-established its four-run lead in the sixth. Kevin Howard ripped a leadoff single into right, and Kirkland followed with a walk. Gailen moved both runners up with a bunt to third. Howard scored on a fly ball to center by Owens for a 5-2 lead. Rosario capped the scoring with an RBI double to right center.

Double plays cut off budding rallies in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings behind DiNardo and in the eighth behind Yoslan Herrera. The final three double plays were started by Denker, playing second. The first was a wild 3-6-1 double play where Rosario fished out a low, wide throw by Ward and still returned the ball to DiNardo in time to get catcher Travis Scott for the third out in the fourth inning.

The Barnstormers will entertain Sugar Land again on Saturday evening. Former Barnstormers ace Matt Wright (4-0) will take the mound for the Skeeters. Lancaster counters with right-hander Will Savage (3-2). Fireworks will follow the 7:00 pm game. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cellphone app, beginning at 6:45.
