
San Jose Earthquakes Defender Nana Attakora Called to Canadian National Team Duty

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes defender Nana Attakora was among 18 players called to Canadian national team duty for a friendly against Costa Rica on Tuesday, May 28 in Edmonton (5 p.m. PT).
Attakora, 24, has five career caps for his country. The athletic center back was Canada's U-20 Player of the Year in 2009 and participated in CONCACAF's 2014 World Cup qualification tournament before Canada bowed out in the third round. He has five starts and six total appearances for San Jose this season. Attakora joined the club as part of a four-player trade with Toronto FC on July 14, 2011 and spent a year overseas with Finland's FC Haka before signing with the Earthquakes again on Feb. 22, 2013.
The Canada-Costa Rica friendly in Edmonton is part of Canada's continued preparations for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Canada will kickoff the tournament on July 7 against Martinique in Pasadena, Calif. Next up is a trip to Seattle, Wash. for a July 11 fixture against Mexico followed by a match against Panama on July 14 in Denver, Colo.
