Reign Players Called to U.S. Women's National Team

Seattle Reign FC News Release

Seattle, WA - Seattle Reign FC midfielder Kaylyn Kyle, defender Emily Zurrer and forward Tiffany Cameron were today named to the 19-player Canadian Women's National team roster for their friendly match against the U.S. Women's National team on Sunday, June 2 at 1:30 p.m. PT at BMO Field in Toronto.

Yesterday, the U.S. Women's national team roster was announced by coach Tom Sermanni. Amy Rodriguez was left off the squad due to her pregnancy and Megan Rapinoe was not included due to club commitments in France. Goalkeeper Hope Solo was left off the roster due to injury, but will join the U.S. team in Canada for training and evaluation of her wrist. The U.S. coaching and medical staff is hoping for the world's top ‘keeper to make a return to full fitness by mid-June.

"Hope's rehabilitation has been progressing well, but we want to make sure she doesn't jump back into competition prematurely," said U.S. National Team Head Coach Tom Sermanni. "The week in Canada seemed like the perfect time to give our medical staff and our goalkeeper coach, Paul Rogers, the chance to gauge her progress. Then we can take the appropriate steps to make a plan for her return to action."

"We're pleased to see Hope back training with the U.S. National Team," said Laura Harvey, Head Coach and General Manager of Seattle Reign FC. "Hope's recent training sessions with our club have gone well, so we think the additional work she'll get with the national team trainers will help get her fit as quickly and as safely as possible."

Kaylyn Kyle and Emily Zurrer, who are two perennial starters for the Canadian National Team, will earn their 75th and 64th appearance for the team, respectively. This will be Kyle's 8th match and Zurrer's 7th against the U.S. WNT.

For Cameron, the former Ohio State NSCAA second team All-American, this will be her 6th appearance for the Canadian Women's National Team and hopefully her second start. She last earned a starting spot in Canada's friendly against England on April 7, 2013.

"It was important for us to bring in a blend of youth and experience for this game," said Head Coach John Herdman. "We feel we have a good blend of players that have experience playing against USA - but we are also sticking to our task of preparing for the future."

Megan Rapinoe, who is currently playing for Olympique Lyon in France, was not included in the US roster. Sermanni chose not to call up the star midfielder, as she has the UEFA Women's Champions League Final coming up on Thursday of this week, as well as the championship match of the French Cup in early June. Rapinoe will join Reign FC in June after the French season is complete.

"Megan has two big matches coming up and we thought it best for all involved for her to stay in France to properly recover from the first and prepare for the second without that international travel mixed in between," said Sermanni. "We wish Megan the best in her pursuit of what would be a tremendous achievement in winning the treble with Lyon, and we'll see her on the East Coast for the South Korea matches in mid-June."

The Canada-USA match at BMO Field sold out on the first day of public on-sale and Herdman is looking to Canadian supporters to give the team a taste of the passionate home support it is anticipating at the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015.
