
Wild Things Shut out Rockford 10-0

Loves, Park, IL - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, earned their first victory of the young 2013 season with a roar, beating the Rockford Aviators by a score of 10-0 at Aviators Stadium Tuesday night.
The Wild Things loaded the bases in the first three innings, and Washington took advantage by plating six runs.
Washington had a great performance from Justin Hall, who pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only five hits and striking out six. During his dominant performance, he sat down Rockford batters 1-2-3 six times.
Three hits in the top of the first allowed the Wild Things to score two runs as first baseman Rick Devereaux knocked in right fielder Gus Benusa, who went three for six at the dish, to make draw first blood at 1-0. Two batters later, shortstop Shain Stoner would hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
In the top of the second, Aviators third basemen Nash Hutter would commit three errors in the inning allowing the Wild Things to drive in three more runs. Catcher Jim Vahalik would score on an error for third run. With the bases loaded Rockford starter Jordan Cudney walked second baseman C.J. Beatty making it 4-0. Stoner ripped a single off Cudney to left scoring Benusa giving Washington a 5-0 lead.
Washington continued to pile up the runs in the third. Rockford brought in reliever Hayden Shirley, who would walk in another run allowing the Wild Things to go up 6-0.
Rockford showed sparks of life in the bottom of the fifth as first baseman Kenny Bryant and rightfielder Michael Hur would hit back-to-back singles with no one out. Wild Thing starting pitcher Justin Hall would get out of the jam by getting catcher Greg Van Horn to pop out. Hall then made left fielder Jake Luce ground into a huge 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Designated Hitter Ijames belted his home run his making it 7-0. Not to be out done, two batters later Beatty hit his first homer of the season. He smashed a Kelley Wagner curveball to center ballooning Washington's lead to 10-0
Washington and Rockford meet for game two of this three game set Wednesday when first pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. Air time on WJPA 1450 AM is 10:55.
The Wild Things will return to CONSOL Energy Park to celebrate their 12th home opener on Friday, May 24th. They will host the Southern Illinois Miners to a three game set. Tickets, including special picnic tickets are available at the box office.
