Evansville Otters News Release
(TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN) - The Evansville Otters lost a fog-shortened game 10-0 against the Traverse City Beach Bums on Tuesday night.
The game was halted in the bottom of the eighth inning when a thick fog moved in from left field and limited the eyesight of the fielders.
The teams were removed from the field by the umpiring crew at 9:39 pm EDT and the game was officially called a half hour later at 10:09 pm.
Traverse City improves to 2-2 with the win as Evansville is now 1-3 this season.
It was a close game all the way until the eighth inning.
Jason Ridenhour started for Evansville allowing a run in the first inning on a groundout and a second inning score on a double from Scott Woodward. Ridenhour, who was on a pitch count, lasted just 3.0 innings.
The Otters turned to reliever Scott Weissman next who pitched two scoreless innings before allowing another run in the sixth inning.
The Evansville offense failed to get anything going against Traverse City right-hander Jake Sabol. The pitcher went 7.0 innings to earn the win (1-0).
Ahead 3-0, Traverse City rallied for seven runs in a dense fog during the bottom of the eighth inning.
Outfielder Nick Schwaner lost a few fly balls in the fog before the game was officially stopped.
Evansville and Traverse City will meet again in the middle contest of the series on Wednesday night.
Michigan native Bryce Morrow (0-1, 1.80 ERA) will be on the mound for Evansville against fellow Traverse City righty Jacob Clem (0-1, 8.43 ERA). First pitch at Wuerfel Park will be at 7:05 pm EDT.
Fans can listen in to the radio broadcast live on WUEV 91.5 FM beginning at 6:45 pm EDT. You can also follow the Otters through Facebook or on Twitter.
