
Pierre's 5 RBI Lift Lugnuts over Captains

Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI) - Gustavo Pierre knocked in five runs with two doubles as the Lansing Lugnuts (19-23) won the game against Lake County (15-27) by a final of 8-5. Pierre came to the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning with noone out and two runners on. Pierre slammed a double to left field and it cleared the bases. At the time, that hit put Lansing up 6-5. The Lugnuts added two more in the inning to win by a final of 8-5. Lansing has now won a season high six straight games.
Lake County scored first. Richard Stock doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. Stock scored on a double play ground ball and the score was 1-0 Captains in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the second, Lansing answered in the bottom half. Kellen Sweeney walked and moved to third base on a single by Chris Hawkins. Seth Conner grounded out and knocked in Sweeney to tie the score.
It became a 4-1 game in the bottom of the third inning.with the bases loaded and only one out, Gustavo Pierre hit his first of two bases clearing doubles. The three RBI double gave Lansing a 4-1 lead headed to the fourth.
The Captains climbed back into the ballgame in the top of the fourth inning, Richard Stock singled to lead off the inning and scored on a double from Eric Haase. Haase later scored on another double play groundout but the Captains cut the lead to 4-3. The game was tied in the top of the fifth, when Logan Vick walked and stole second base. Vick scored on a double by Stock. Stock finished with 3 hits, one RBI and two runs scored. The game was tied 4-4.
Lake County took the lead in the sixth. Nellie Rodriguez singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Rodriguez moved to third on a groundout. Nellie scored on an error on Pierre, and Lake County led 5-4. That lead lasted until the eighth when Pierre struck again.
RHP Dylan Baker (1-3) started for the Captains and did not get a decision. Baker twirled six innings and allowed five hits, four runs, three earned runs, and three walks. Baker fanned two. Josh Martin (2-3) got the loss. Martin pitched one and one third innings allowing three hits, four earned runs and one walk. Francisco Valera finished off the game and pitched the final two thirds.
The Lugnuts sent RHP Taylor Cole (2-2) to the mound to start the game. Cole didn't factor in the decision after going five innings. Cole allowed seven hits and four earned runs. He walked four and struck out one. Tucker Donahue pitched an inning and got the win. Donahue (1-1) walked one and struck out one. Wil Browning picked up his second save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth.
The Captains will continue with game number two of a quick three game road trip to Lansing. Wednesday Morning the Captains will send RHP Luis Dejesus (0-4, 4.71) to the mound and the Lugnuts will counter with RHP Ben White (1-3, 4.08). First pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM.
