York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution won for the fourth time in five games, defeating the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 on Monday night in front of 4,519 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs now lead the "War of the Roses" series 4-3, having taken three of four from Lancaster in the series. York will continue its homestand, hosting the first place Sugar Land Skeeters in the first of three games on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
The final out came in dramatic fashion. Barnstormers speedster Jerry Owens drew a one-out walk and stole second base, placing the tying run in scoring position. York closer Juan Rincon then retired Olmo Rosario on a deep fly ball to left for the second out, and left fielder James Shanks aired out a perfect throw to third base, nailing Owens trying to advance for the game's final out.
York 's bullpen was outstanding all night. Pedro Liriano (1-0) earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings in relief after lefty Kris Regas made his second start, working into the fourth and allowing three runs. Michael Wuertz and Rommie Lewis also chipped in, with Wuertz striking out Travis Denker to end the seventh, and Lewis recording all three outs to strand the tying run in the eighth after Ryan Harvey reached on a bloop single to lead off the inning.
Down 3-0, the Revs roared back by scoring all four of their runs with two outs in the fifth inning. After leaving the bases loaded against Barnstormers starter Will Savage (3-2) two innings earlier, the second attempt at a rally would come to fruition. Revs designated hitter Cody Johnson drew a leadoff walk for the second time in as many plate appearances in his debut game to lay the groundwork for the rally. With two outs, Eric Patterson kept things alive with his second base hit. Jeff Fiorentino then rolled an RBI single into right to get the Revs on the board, and both runners advanced when right fielder Stephen Holdren overran the ball, committing an error. That allowed Brian Burgamy's single up the middle to plate two runs, tying the game. Burgamy also extended his on-base streak to a league-high 23 consecutive games in doing so. Andy Marte followed with a towering fly ball to deep left that was playable, but left fielder Blake Gailen lost sight of it in the twilight as it landed on the warning track behind him, allowing Burgamy to score from first on what was ruled a double, and Marte's league-leading 32nd RBI of the season, which proved to be the difference.
Lancaster built its early lead on solo homers to left by Harvey in the second and Rosario in the third. Rosario then made it 3-0 in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to left.
Each of the last five games have been decided by two runs or fewer, with the Revs having now won four of those five. Monday also marked the 22nd time in 31 games that the opponent has scored the first run against York. The Revs are now 12-10 in those games, however, as the win was their 13th in come-from-behind fashion already this season. The three-run comeback tied a season-best.
York 's Corey Thurman (2-4, 3.72) will face Sugar Land's Scott Elarton (2-2, 3.75) in Tuesday's series opener at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
