Columbus Clippers News Release
In front of a big crowd of 10,100 at Huntington Park, Chris Wallace sent the fans home happy as his game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth proved to be the difference in a 4-3 Clippers win over the RailRiders.
Scranton/WB would be the first to score in the top of the fourth when, with the bases loaded, Dan Johnson scored on a Lonnie Chisenhall throwing error. The RailRiders still had the bases juiced, but Chisenhall redeemed himself by stepping on third and throwing to first in time for an inning-ending double play.
Chisenhall would further make up for his fielding gaffe with a two run homer that went way over the Wendy's Hamburger Balcony in right and bounced onto Nationwide Boulevard. It gave Columbus a 2-1 lead. Chisenhall would also score on a Cedric Hunter RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.
The Columbus left-hander T. J. House (ND) pitched very well in this game. His final line: 6 1/3 innings pitched, one run on four hits, five strikeouts, and four walks.
The RailRiders would tie it at 3-3 on a two run bomb off the bat of Corban Joseph. Fortunately, Columbus came up with the necessary rally in the bottom of the ninth. Matt Carson led off the frame with a walk. He then stole second and moved to third on a Hunter sacrifice bunt. After a Juan Diaz strikeout, Chris Wallace delivered for his ball club with a game winning RBI single to right field. Preston Guilmet (W, 2-2) got the win for the Clippers. Jim Miller (L, 0-4) took the loss for the RailRiders.
The RailRiders and Clippers will be back at it on Sunday night. The Clippers will send righty Trevor Bauer (1-0, 2.25) to the hill. Scranton/Wilkes Barre will counter with right-hander Caleb Cotham (0-1, 7.27). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
