Game One: LH Daniel Stumpf (3-0, 1.19) vs. RH Tyler Glasnow (3-0, 1.80)

THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia beat Lexington 3-1 on Friday evening. After an hour and 33 minute rain delay, the Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first without the benefit of a hit. The Power answered with a solo home run by Dilson Herrera in the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom of the sixth, West Virginia broke the 1-1 tie on a run-scoring single by Raul Fortunato. Stetson Allie plated an insurance run in the seventh to cap the offense. Three Power pitchers combined to limit the Legends to two hits with Bryton Trepagnier earning his first win. Ryan Hafner pitched two scoreless frames for his first professional save.
FOUR! Dilson Herrera went 4-4 on Friday night and extended his hitting streak to seven straight. The Colombian infielder was a triple shy of the cycle after his first three at bats. During his current streak, Herrera is batting .555 with three home runs and six runs batted in. He has climbed into the league's top ten in batting average, now at .321, ranking tenth in the SAL and second on the club behind Walker Gourley.
LONG TIME NO SEE: The Power have played the Legends more than any other club since 2005, going 82-77 over 159 games. Neither team has a winning record at home in this series with West Virginia going 45-38 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark and the Legends holding a 39-37 edge at Appalachian Power Park.
TWO-FER: Clay Holmes, Bryton Trepagnier, and Ryan Hafner combined to pitch a two-hitter on Friday evening. Holmes allowed one hit over five innings while striking out five and walking three, but the starter did not factor in the decision. Trepagnier allowed one base runner on a hit in the sixth inning and was thebenefactor of the late offense. Hafner walked two and struck out two over the final two innings. Mike Jefferson and Nathan Kilcrease worked the last two hitter; a seven-inning game on August 30, 2012 at Charleston, SC.
20-20: West Virginia's win Friday evened their record out at 20-20 after 40 games, making them the second fastest club to reach 20 wins in a season since West Virginia's affiliation with the Pirates began. The 2012 edition of the Power did not win their 20th game of the season until June 9 in their 62nd game of the season. The 2011 club was 20-19 on May 19 after 39 games while the 2010 version was 20-22 on May 22. The inaugural club did not win their 20th game until game 52 on June 2, 2009 (game 52).
10 & 10: Friday's win was the Power's tenth this month in 15 games. West Virginia won 10 times in 25 games during April. During the first month of the season, the club batted .270 with twenty home runs, but had a staff earned run average 4.73. So far during May, the team is batting .261 with eight home runs and a staff ERA of 3.11.
E FREE: The Power are now 9-3 in games when they do not commit an error. The Power led all minor league clubs with 50 errors over 26 games during the month of April. West Virginia has committed 10 errors in 15 games, fewest of any SAL team so far in May.
PROMO UPDATE- WVU NIGHT IS TONIGHT: The first 1,000 fans through the gate at 4:00 pm will receive a Geno Smith bobblehead. All fans will have the chance to meet and greet Kevin Jones, Truck Bryant, and Da'Sean Butler between 7:00 and 9:00 pm. WVU Night is present by the WV Army National Guard.
POWER POINTS: Josh Bell extended his on-base streak to 17 consecutive games with a first inning walk last night. It is the second longest on the club this season behind Max Moroff's 19-game streak in April... Walker Gourley has a five-game hitting streak entering play in his next game... Stetson Allie has gone 47 at bats since his last home run.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh rallied to beat Houston 5-4 in walk-off fashion. The Pirates scored two in the eighth to tie the game and won it on a walk-off error in the ninth... Indianapolis slipped past Buffalo 2-1... Altoona beat Richmond 2-1. Casey Sadler earned the win for the Curve... Bradenton won 5-4 in a walk-off against St. Lucie. Willy Garcia hit a game tying home run in the eighth and a game-winning single in the ninth.
