York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution built an early lead and hung on late to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Long Island Ducks on Thursday evening, in front of 4,551 fans at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY. The Revs earned a series win by claiming the final two contests, and will return home to begin a seven-game homestand on Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the Lancaster Barnstormers.

The Revs fell behind 1-0 in the first inning. After leaving the bases loaded in the top of the first, the Revs found themselves in trouble as three consecutive singles to start the night loaded the bases against starter Corey Thurman in the bottom half of the inning. Thurman then issued a walk to Ramon Castro forcing in a run, but retired the next three holding the Ducks to just the one run.

The Revs then struck for six runs in the top of the second, grabbing an early 6-1 lead. Four consecutive RBI singles from Ruddy Yan, Andres Perez, Brian Burgamy, and Andy Marte brought runs to the plate. Wilson Batista capped the outburst with a two-run double to left-center, ending the night of Ducks starter Matt Way (1-2) after only 1.2 innings.

Thurman (2-4) kept the lead intact, allowing just two runs in six innings to pick up the victory. Joash Brodin's solo homer to right in the bottom of the fourth accounted for the only other damage done against Thurman, who earned the 54th win of his Revolution career, eight shy of tying for second most in league history, and an even 20 wins away from matching the league's all-time record.

The Revs tacked on an important insurance run in the seventh, courtesy of a two-out RBI single up the middle from Perez. As it turned out, it would be a critical run that the Revs would end up needing.

Long Island ripped off four runs with two outs in the eighth inning, suddenly making it a one-run game. The rally came on four consecutive RBI singles, as Gabe Suarez blooped the first into shallow right, Dan Lyons singled off reliever Stephen Penney's glove for the second run, and Danny Perales and Adam Bailey each singled up the middle to provide the other two. Reliever Julio DePaula came on to record an inning-ending fielder's choice off the bat of Ray Navarrete, however, and Juan Rincon fired a scoreless ninth for his third save.
