Fowlie Commits to University of Regina

Twenty-year-old graduating forward Cody Fowlie has found a place to play next season and will utilize the WHL scholarship to attend a Canadian university and play at the highest level of collegiate hockey in Canada next season.

University of Regina men's hockey head coach Todd Johnson announced Thursday that Fowlie has committed to the Cougars for the 2013-14 season.

Originally from Airdrie, Alta., Fowlie played for three full seasons in the Western Hockey League and finished off his junior career with the Kelowna Rockets as a 20-year-old this year.

He put up 40 points in 59 games with the Rockets and added three postseason goals as Kelowna advanced to the Western Conference semifinal series. Fowlie, who also had 40 points during the 2011-12 season, collected a total of 95 points in a total of 201 career regular season games played with Kelowna and Everett.

"Cody is an extremely capable offensive player and he is consistently rewarded on the ice for his strong work ethic," Johnson said. "His great character is a major reason I went after him so hard and I'm extremely pleased to add him to the roster."

Fowlie was released by Everett at the start of the WHL season and was picked up by the Rockets off the WHL waiver wire.

He quickly became one of the hardest working Rockets and was a key cog in the team's 52 win season this season.

Overall Fowlie played 208 regular season WHL games in a three year career split between Kelowna and Everett.
