Portland Timbers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers announced today that defender Mikael Silvestre has undergone successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. The procedure was performed by Timbers Director of Medicine Dr. Richard Edelson at Sports Medicine Oregon in Tigard, Ore.

Silvestre is expected to be out 6-9 months. Surgery to repair the injury, which was sustained in the second half of the May 2 match against New England, was performed once it had stabilized.

In his first season with the club, Silvestre, 35, started eight of the Timbers first nine matches of the season, logging 688 minutes and helping the backline record three shutouts. He contributed the club's recent 312-minute shutout streak - one of the longest in MLS this season.
