Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Adelanto, CA- - A season high of 11 runs allowed to the High Desert Mavericks (20-19) was too much for the Inland Empire 66ers (22-16) to overcome in an 11-7 defeat Wednesday night. The series opening loss will keep the 66ers from moving past division leading Lancaster, whom the 66ers still trail by a half game.
The Mavericks offense lived up to its billing as one of the best in the California League, and their home park, Stater Brothers Stadium, lived up to its reputation as a hitters paradise. The two squads combined for 18 runs on 24 hits in the contest. The lion's share of the Mavs contribution coming in the first three innings where they scored nine runs on nine hits to establish a six run lead.
Inland Empire scored almost all of its runs on the long ball. In the 3rd inning it was Chance Ross recording a three run home run for his first ever blast as a professional. Then in the 8th Michael Snyder and Zach Borenstein went back-to-back to make it a four run game coming down the stretch. For Snyder it was his 4th home run in the last three games, and for Borenstein it put him atop the California League with 11 bombs on the season, as many as he had all of last year.
But in the end it was not to be. The Mavericks hung on to their four run lead for the win, establishing a new season high for runs scored against the star pitching staff of the 66ers.
Inland Empire will attempt to even the series Thursday with staff ace Mark Sappington scheduled to start against the Mavericks. First pitch time is scheduled for 7:05 PM and the game can be heard on the 66ers flagship station AM 1050 KCAA. The 66ers return home on Sunday, May 19th to host the San Jose Giants for a Family Funday Sunday presented by Toyota of San Bernardino.
