STORM SIGNS MCFADDEN

The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced Monday May 13th that Garrett McFadden, the team's 1st round pick in 2013, has signed an Ontario Hockey League contract with the team.

The Kincardine native had 14 goals and 16 assists in 37 games playing Minor Midget AAA with the Grey-Bruce Highlanders last season. At 5'10 and 185 pounds, McFadden is an offensive minded defenceman with a stockier build.

The 16 year old most recently finished tied for third in overall scoring and first in defensive scoring on Team OMHA Black with four points (two goals and two assists) in five games at the first ever U16 OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener. He scored the game winning goal in Team OMHA Black's victory over Team NOHA.

LESLIE NAMED STORM'S MOST IMPROVED PLAYER

With the conclusion of the OHL playoffs, the Storm will be announcing our major award winners for the 2012-13 season over the next couple of days.

The Storm announced today that Zac Leslie was named the team's most improved player for the 2012-13 season. Leslie was a pleasant surprise on the Storm's blueline this season logging tons of ice time and gaining significant special teams experience. Avoiding injury this year, the Ottawa native was arguably the Storm's most consistent defenceman.

STORM PROSPECTS REPRESENT AT OHL GOLD CUP IN KITCHENER

The first annual U16 OHL Gold Cup was held in Kitchener this past weekend and several Storm prospects were on hand.

An annual event created to feature Ontario's top Under-16 talent, this event not only showcases Ontario's talent, but it is an evaluation and selection process for Team Ontario. The top 68 players from the U16 OHL Gold Cup will attend the Under-17 Team Ontario Camp where the Team Ontario Staff will select 22 players to represent Ontario at the World Under-17 Challenge held annually in December. With 8 teams and 160 players representing the ALLIANCE, GTHL, HNO, NOHA, ODHA and OMHA, the future of Canadian hockey is on display during the 2013 OHL Gold Cup.
