Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads are proud to announce the signing of their 1st round pick from the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, Sean Day. "We are thrilled to welcome Sean Day to the Mississauga Steelheads organization. Sean's tremendous skill set is highlighted by his elite skating ability. We look forward to working with Sean as he adjusts to the league and becomes a key member of our hockey club." said Steelheads General Manager, James Boyd.
Day, a member of Detroit Compuware last year was selected 4th overall by the Steelheads at the OHL Priority Selection and in April was granted Exceptional Status by Hockey Canada, allowing him to enter the OHL Priority Selection as an 15 year old, only the 4th player in league history to receive the Exceptional Status distinction. Despite not playing minor hockey in Canada, Day is a Canadian citizen, with both of his parents having strong ties to Ontario and the GTA region and will have some strong local support from family and friends when he takes the ice at the Hershey Centre this season.
Steelheads owner Elliott Kerr is looking forward to Day's OHL debut this coming season. "We are thrilled to have a player the quality of Sean Day join our Steelheads family. We enthusiastically look forward to working with Sean and his family as we assist in his development as a person, a student and a hockey player."
Being granted exceptional status and joining the Steelheads have been an exciting process for Sean. "I am very honoured and proud to be a part of the Steelheads team. It's an exciting step in my hockey career, and I'm looking forward to the coming season."
The Steelheads would like to welcome Sean and the Day family to the Mississauga Steelheads organization.
Fans can watch Day and his Steelheads teammates all season long by picking up their 2013-2014 Steelheads season tickets which are on sale now.
