York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution rebounded in a big way from a doubleheader sweep the night before, pounding the Lancaster Barnstormers 10-2 on Sunday afternoon at Clipper Magazine Stadium for their first victory in the 2013 "War of the Roses" series. The Revs will now have an off-day Monday before travelling to Long Island to open a three-game series on Tuesday night.
York trailed early in the game as Lancaster plated a pair of second inning runs, scoring on an infield single by Tsuyoshi Takashima and a single to center from Blake Gailen, going in front 2-0. That was all that York starter Chris Cody (2-1) would allow, however, retiring his final 11 batters and working six innings to earn the win.
The Revs offense plated 10 unanswered runs, scoring multiple runs in four different innings while whacking 15 hits in the big win.
York took the lead scoring three times in the third. Back-to-back walks to James Shanks and Eric Patterson set the table, and Andres Perez singled to load the bases with no outs. Brian Burgamy extended his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games with a single to center, plating Shanks to get York on the board. Patterson would then come home on a wild pitch to tie the score at 2-2. Jeff Fiorentino added an RBI single to drive in the go-ahead run as the Revs went in front to stay.
The Revs built on their lead as Salvador Paniagua cracked a two-run double to deep center in the fifth. Andy Marte added a sacrifice fly in the sixth for his league-best 26th RBI, followed by a long two-run homer to right off the bat of Fiorentino. Paniagua connected on a two-run homer to right-center in the seventh to cap the scoring.
Paniagua led the way with a season-high four RBI, while Fiorentino drove in three runs in a game for the second time in a week, tying his season-best. Jason Repko went 4-for-5 with a triple. Eight of York's nine starters recorded at least one hit.
Joe Torres, Julio DePaula, and Stephen Penney all worked scoreless innings out of the Revs bullpen to finish off the game.
Lancaster starter Jay Buente (1-3) took the loss, charged with three runs in 2.1 innings. He was one of eight Barnstormer pitchers used in the game.
York has now scored double digits seven times already in just 24 games on the season.
Tuesday's opener at Long Island is set for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. Revs fans can catch the action on SportsRadio 1350, YorkRevolution.com, and on the Shoutcast phone app (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
