Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the sixth inning, but the Winnipeg Goldeyes scored seven runs in the final three innings to complete the rally and give the Goldeyes an 8-7 victory on Sunday, May 12, at Newman Outdoor Field.

Winnipeg picked up a run in the seventh by wild pitch that scored Tim Smith and scored another two runs in the eighth off a fielding error and RBI groundout. RedHawks reliever Pete Levitt walked three batters in the ninth to load the bases before Nick Liles hit a three-run triple down the left-field line to tie the game at seven.

Leonard Davis put the finishing touch on the rally with a line-drive single to left, driving in Liles for the eventual game-winning run.

A pitcher's duel made up the first four innings of the game, as RedHawks starter Alex Caldera went four innings allowing one earned run on four hits with strikeouts and Goldeyes starter Matthew Rusch pitched three innings allowing only one hit.

After the Goldeyes scored the first run of the game in the fourth, the RedHawks scored four runs in the fourth, which was highlighted by Zach Penprase and Tim Alberts RBI singles and an RBI double off the bat of Nic Jackson.

The RedHawks remained hot at the plate in the fifth. Ryan Pineda hit a lead-off home run, Nick Akins and Clint Ourso singled, Penprase hit a sacrifice fly and Alberts hit another RBI single ending the Fargo-Moorhead scoring at seven.

Winnipeg was supported by a strong back end of their bullpen with Allen Caldwell and Brenden Lafferty pitching scoreless seventh and eighth innings, respectively, and Patrick Keating throwing a 1-2-3 ninth to earn the save. Lafferty earned the victory. The Goldeyes were led at the plate by a 3-for-5 performance by Liles, with Fehlandt Lentini being the only other player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with two runs and a triple.

Fargo-Moorhead's Pineda, Alberts, Akins, Penprase and Jackson each had two hits. Alberts and Penprase had two RBIs apiece. Joe Harris pitched 2 1/3 innings giving up one earned run on one hit and a walk with two strikeouts out of the bullpen. Pete Levitt came in for Alex Sunderland in the eighth, but earned the loss allowing four earned runs in 1 2/3 innings of work.

The RedHawks will finish the exhibition schedule on the road with games in Kansas City and Grand Prairie. They begin the regular season on Thursday, May 16, in Laredo, Texas, against the Laredo Lemurs. The home opener in Fargo will take place Friday, May 24, at 7:02 p.m. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701) 235-6161.
