
Wingnuts Beat T-Bones in Joplin

JOPLIN, MO- The Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Kansas City T-Bones 8-7 at historic Joe Becker Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 4-0, the Wingnuts scored eight unanswered runs, highlighted by a five-run bottom of the fifth. Abel Nieves started the comeback with an RBI single to center in the bottom of the fourth that scored Ryan Khoury from second base.
Wichita then scored five times, all with two outs, in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded and two away, David Amberson blooped a single to shallow center that scored Blake Bergeron and Kieran Bradford. Cole Armstrong followed with a two run double into the right field corner to make it 5-4 Wichita. Colt Loehrs capped off the rally with an RBI double to straightaway center.
Khoury and Ambeson each drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 8-4.
The T-Bones rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth, before Daniel Schmidt closed out the game with a scoreless top of the ninth. Schmidt stranded the tying and go-ahead runs on base when Bergeron robbed Jairo Perez on a groundball along the first base line. Schmidt earned the save with three innings of work in the Wingnuts' victory.
Bryce Shafer picked up the win for Wichita, allowing two earned runs in three innings of relief.
Kristhiam Linares started for the Wingnuts and took a no-decision. Linares allowed one earned run on one hit in three innings, striking out one and walking two.
Shaun Garceau started for Kansas City and also took a no-decision. Garceau allowed one earned run on three hits in four innings with six strikeouts and one walk.
Kyle Roliard suffered the loss, allowing five unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Kansas City scored the first run of the game in the top of the first when Felix Molina homered on the second pitch of the afternoon. Trevor Coleman's two-run single in the top of the fourth was the key hit in a three-run inning for the T-Bones that allowed them to build a 4-0 advantage.
Khoury had two doubles and two runs scored in the win. Amberson reached base three times and finished with three RBI. Seven different Wingnut had at least one hit.
The Wingnuts close out their exhibition schedule on Wednesday morning against the Kansas City T-Bones at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. Tickets are just $7 general admission and can be purchased at the gate.
The 2013 season of Wichita Wingnuts baseball begins Thursday, May 16th against the Kansas City T-Bones at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Prior to the game, a ceremony celebrating the life of bench coach Brian Rose will take place.
Beginning this season, fans can use cash at all points of sale in Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Debit and credit cards will still be accepted. Fans can resolve outstanding balances on cash cards from previous years until June 1st, 2013.
