Rochester Red Wings News Release

Rochester Red Wings (14-19) @ Toledo Mud Hens (9-25)

Fifth Third Field - Toledo, OH - 6:30 p.m.

RHP Liam Hendriks (1-2, 4.37) vs. LHP Jose Alvarez (1-2, 1.29)

TODAY'S GAME: After Kyle Gibson's gem on Wednesday, the Wings can win the series on Thursday in the finale of their 4-game series against the Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) tonight at 6:30 p.m. from Fifth Third Field in Toledo, OH. Previously, the Wings split a 4-game set against the Columbus Clippers and are now 4-3 so far on their 8-game Western Division road trip... Since their season-high 4-game winning streak April 24-27, the Wings are 5-5 in the last 10 games and currently sit in 5th place in the North -- 7.0 games back of Buffalo... Meanwhile, Toledo owns the worst record in the IL at 9-25 and are 14.0 games behind Indianapolis in the West... The Wings return home Friday to begin an 8-game homestand against Columbus (5/10-5/13) and Durham (5/14-5/17).

MORE FROM LAST NIGHT...:

-The Wings hit 2 triples in a game for the first time this season and for the first time since recording 3 on 8/27/12 @ BUF

-Evan Bigley's 1st-inn. HR was the Wings 30th of the season (T-2nd in the IL)... ROC didn't hit their 30th HR last season until 6/6.

-Rochester extended their season-long streak of recording at least one extra-base hit to 17 games

-The Wings guaranteed at least a split of the series and road trip, meaning Rochester has not lost a series since dropping 3 of 4 to Scranton/WB from 4/15-18 -- a span of 5 series.

WITH A WIN TONIGHT, THE WINGS...:

-Will win 3 straight games for the first time since a season-long 4-game win streak 4/24-27.

-Will win the 4-game series, 3-1, and beat Toledo for the 12th time in their last 13 meetings dating back to the 2011 season.

-Will finish an 8-game road trip with a winning record for the first time since 7/28-8/5/12 @ COL & TOL (7-1)

JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED: After burning through 9 pitchers in Tuesday's 16-inning affair, Kyle Gibson turned in a complete-game shutout for the Wings on Wednesday. Gibson allowed just 4 hits - all singles - and two walks while striking out a season-high and tied for team-high 8 batters... Gibson's second career CG-SHO came on the heels of allowing a career-high 11 hits in his previous start on 5/3 @ COL... Ironically, the Wings other CG-SHO this season was thrown by P.J. Walters who turned in his shutout in the start following a career-high 13-hit outing... Gibson has now started 2 of the 3 Red Wings shutouts this season.

-It was the first 9-inning, CG-SHO by a Red Wings pitcher since Jeff Manship blanked the Norfolk Tides on 6/3/10 vs. NOR

-Gibson's other CG-SHO came in his 5th professional start on 4/29/10 with Ft. Myers (9 ip, h, bb, 6 k)

-Rochester owns the only 2 CG-SHO's this season in the IL (Walters, 7-inn, CG-SHO on 4/21 (2))

OVER AND OUT: OF Evan Bigley hit a two-run home run in the first inning Wednesday - his second homer on the year for the Wings - but injured his wrist diving for an Argenis Diaz liner in the bottom half of the first frame. On Thursday, he was put on the 7-day disabled list with a sprained left wrist... Bigley hits the DL hitting .303 with 2 HR and 3 RBI in 19 games with Rochester after starting the season in New Britain... C Danny Lehmann is scheduled to join the Red Wings when they return to Frontier Field on Friday... Lehmann, who hit .237 in 14 games for the Wings last season, was hitting .273 with a home run and 3 RBI in 9 games with New Britain this season.

-The Wings now have 11 players on their disabled list... Bigley joins C Drew Butera (broken hand) as the only position players

PITCHER'S DUEL PERHAPS: Tonight's game could very well feature the third shutout of the series after Rochester was blanked in game one (1-0) and the Wings returned the favor in game 3 (3-0)... RHP Liam Hendriks gets the start for the Red Wings coming off his first "quality start" of the season against Columbus when he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings. It had been since 2010 since Hendriks went 3 straight minor league starts without a "quality start". Hendriks dominated Toledo in a pair of starts last season going 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA (3 ER/ 14.0 IP) with 7 hits allowed and 12 strikeouts against just one walk... Toledo will counter with LHP Jose Alvarez who comes in with the 2nd best ERA in the IL at 1.29 (5 ER/35.0 IP) and is coming off 7.0-shutout innings in his last start on Saturday against Charlotte.

THE RIGHT ROTATION: After Kyle Gibson's dominant outing on Wednesday followed solid outings from Andrew Albers (6.1 IP, 0 R) and P.J. Walters (6.0 IP, 2 R) in the previous 2 games, the Wings rotation's season ERA has dipped to a season-low 3.63. Over the last 12 games, the starters have turned in 9 "quality starts" and posted a 2.53 ERA (21 ER/74.2 IP)... Wings starters had posted just 2 quality starts over the first 21 games of the season posting a 4.39 ERA (51 ER/104.2 IP).
