Potomac Nationals News Release

Woodbridge, VA- The Potomac Nationals have announced Major League Baseball legends, former 30-game winner, Denny McLain and Boston Red Sox hero, Bernie Carbo will make appearances at Pfitzner Stadium in the month of June to meet and greet the P-Nats faithful, sign autographs, and toss out the ceremonial first pitch.

Carbo returns to Pfitzner Stadium on Saturday, June 1st for the 6:35pm matchup with the Lynchburg Hillcats (Atlanta Braves) with gates swinging open at 5:00pm.

McLain will appear at the Home of the Potomac Nationals for the first time ever on Friday, June 21st for the 7:05pm P-Nats contest against the Carolina Mudcats (Cleveland Indians). Gates will open for this game at 6:00pm.

McLain, 69, was a three-time All-Star in 1966, 1968, and 1969 with the Detroit Tigers and also appeared for one season with the Washington Senators under manager, Ted Williams in 1971.

McLain, a right-handed hurler from Markham, IL, earned a World Series Championship in '68, the same campaign in which he was named American League Most Valuable Player. McLain won the Cy Young Award twice, in '68 and '69.

His most heralded season was '68 when McLain collected over 30 victories going (31-6) to complement a 1.96 earned run average during a wire-to-wire year for the Tigers en route to the A.L. pennant. McLain is the last man in Major League Baseball history to win 30 games in one season- a feat accomplished by only 13 players in the 20th century.

Carbo, 65, played for six different teams as an outfielder in his 12 year MLB career after being selected in the 1st round of the 1965 MLB Amateur Draft by the Cincinnati Reds.

Carbo, a native of Detroit, MI, hit .264 with 98 home runs and 358 runs batted in during a career that was commenced with election into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame.

The left-handed swinger is most famous for belting a pinch-hit three-run four-bagger in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series against the Reds as a member of the Red Sox that paved the way for Carlton Fisk's legendary game-winning homer in the bottom of the 12th inning to seal a 7-6 Boston triumph to force a Game 7.

The Potomac Nationals of the Carolina League play at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, Virginia, and are the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Washington Nationals. P-Nats 2013 season tickets, mini plans, and individual game tickets are on sale now. Sponsorship opportunities for the '13 season are still available.
