Frederick Keys News Release
A wild back in forth affair led the saw a wild Frederick rally followed by a late inning collapse as the Keys fell to Winston-Salem 12-9 in 11 innings Wednesday afternoon. It was the Keys first loss of the season in a game in which they had scored five or more runs.
The final blow came in the bottom of the 11th inning when with two men on and one out Dash second baseman Joey DeMichele launched a three-run home run to right-center field to end the game abruptly. The Keys trailed early 5-1 before battling back with the big inning. Frederick used five consecutive hits in a six-run fifth inning to grab the lead 7-5. All-in-all the Keys sent 11 men to the plate in the big fifth inning.
In the seventh inning the Keys grabbed insurance. With one on and one out right fielder Steve Bumbry homered over the left field wall for his team-leading fourth home run on the season. The lead had swelled to 9-5.
But in the bottom half of the frame, things got away from the Keys. Reliever Zach Fowler who had worked two scoreless innings prior left the game with a runner on, two down and two runs already in. David Walters entered and the first pitch he threw was hit over the left field wall by Dash shortstop Chris Curley to tie the game.
The Keys finished their road trip at 4-1. The loss ended a season-high four-game winning streak.
Frederick returns home for Friday, May 10th through Monday May 13th to take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks.
Saturday, May 11th is Manny Machado Bobblehead Night presented by Bayrunner Shuttle with the first 1,000 fans to enter receiving the bobblehead. Fireworks follow the 6:00 p.m. game. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m.
