Toronto FC News Release
Toronto FC announced Tuesday that it has acquired New Zealand international forward Jeremy Brockie on loan from Wellington Phoenix FC (Wellington Phoenix).
Brockie, 25, joins Toronto FC after spending the past season with Hyundai A-League (A-League) club, Wellington Phoenix where he appeared in 24 matches and scored 16 goals; finishing second in league scoring. Brockie has scored 32 career goals in 98 A-League matches.
"We're excited to have Jeremy join us on loan. Ryan has played with him on the All Whites and speaks very highly of him," said Toronto FC President and General Manager Kevin Payne. " He'll provide another option in an attacking position and if he can continue his form from the last A-League season we'll be happy indeed ."
Brockie started his professional career with Nelson Suburbs of the Matson's Premier Football League. He joined Canterbury United of the New Zealand Football Championship before signing with the New Zealand Knights ahead of their debut season in the A-League. Brockie then signed with Sydney FC in March 2006 and left a year later to join Hawke's Bay United of the New Zealand Football Championship. In 2009, he joined A-League expansion club North Queensland Fury and spent one season with the club before signing with the Newcastle Jets ahead of the 2010 season. After two seasons with the Jets he signed for New Zealand based Wellington Phoenix.
Brockie has earned 35 caps for the New Zealand National team. He made his international debut on February 19, 2006 against Malaysia. Brockie has been part of the New Zealand squad at the 2008 Olympic games, 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
