Real Salt Lake Match Preview: RSL at New England Revolution

SANDY, Utah (Tuesday, May 7, 2013) - Real Salt Lake will begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday, when it will take on Eastern Conference opponent the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.

Wednesday's match will kickoff at 6:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on CW30, ESPN700 AM and 102.3 La Gran D/1600 AM . CW30 will air its 30-minute Ford Postgame Show immediately following the match; ESPN 700 will begin its pregame coverage at 5:00 p.m. MT and will air an hour-long postgame show immediately following the final whistle.

Wednesday's game is the second in a three game in seven day stretch for the Claret-and-Cobalt. Real Salt Lake won its first match in the busy stretch, getting second-half goals from MF Luis Gil and MF Javier Morales to beat Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday. RSL will close its busy week this Saturday, May 11, when it will take on the Montreal Impact at 12:00 p.m. MT at Stade Saputo.

RSL will again be depleted up top on Wednesday, as leading scorer FW Alvaro Saborio (R quad tear) is out for the match while FW Robbie Findley (L knee hyperextension) and FW Olmes Garcia (R adductor strain) are both questionable due to injuries. The team will also be without DF Rich Balchan (L shoulder separation), and MF Cole Grossman (concussion), while MF Yordany Alvarez (R ankle contusion) is questionable.

The Claret-and-Cobalt fared fine without the injured Findley and Saborio against Vancouver on Saturday, with FW Joao Plata registering two assists to move into a tie for the league lead with four helpers on the season. The Utah side's two goal performance against the "˜Caps was the first time that RSL scored more than one goal in a game since it beat Seattle 2-1 on March 30.

Real Salt Lake is a solid 7-4-4 all-time against New England. RSL has done well when playing at New England, posting a 3-2-2 record in seven league games at Gillette Stadium. The Claret-and-Cobalt won its only match against New England last year, beating the Revs 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium on May 5, 2012.

New England is currently in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a 2-3-3 record. The Revs have been very strong defensively but have struggled in the attack this year, conceding a league best six goals and scoring a league worst four in eight games played. The Revs tied their last match, playing Portland to a scoreless draw at JELD-WEN Field last Thursday.

RSL will have a quick turnaround after Wednesday's match, heading north of the border on Thursday ahead of Saturday's 12:00 p.m. MT kickoff against the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo.

RSL History v. New England Revolution

Real Salt Lake is 7-4-4 all-time against New England. RSL has done well when playing at New England, posting a 3-2-2 record in seven league games at Gillette Stadium.

The Claret-and-Cobalt won its only match against New England last year, getting a brace from FW Alvaro Saborio to beat the Revs 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium on May 5, 2012. The Claret-and-Cobalt held on to win that match despite former RSL MF Will Johnson's straight red card in the 59th minute.

RSL won its last match at Gillette Stadium, using a makeshift lineup to beat New England 2-0 at the Foxborough facility on April 10, 2011.
