LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Omar Poveda delivered his fifth quality start in six outings, but it was not enough as the Gwinnett Braves (12-20) dropped their ninth-straight game on Monday night in a 5-1 loss to the Pawtucket Red Sox (18-11).

Poveda (L, 2-2) was not his usual self as he allowed a first inning run for the first time this season. In the top of the first, Mark Hamilton connected for an opposite field homer to left, scoring Ryan Lavarnway to give the Red Sox an early 2-0 lead.

Pawtucket was not done there. In the third inning, the Red Sox added another run on two hits and a walk. Brandon Snyder walked and was erased on a fielder's choice by Jeremy Hazelbaker. Ronald Bermudez singled to put Hazelbaker in scoring position, and Brock Holt drove him home from second with a single to raise the lead to 3-0.

The G-Braves' bats were kept cold by Pawtucket starter Rubby De La Rosa over 4.0 scoreless, three-hit innings. He struck out six, but did not qualify for the win as he was removed in the top of the fifth inning. Chris Hernandez replaced him in the fifth and quickly gave up a run.

Jordan Parraz hit a solo home run to deep left field to cut the lead to 3-1, his fourth blast of the year. Hernandez (W, 1-2) settled down after the homer, yielding just two more hits and striking out three over 4.0 innings to pick up the win.

Poveda exited after 6.0 innings, suffering the loss despite his team-leading fifth quality start. The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out five.

The Red Sox took advantage of Poveda's exit in the seventh as they scored two runs on three hits against reliever Wirfin Obispo. Lavarnway capped the scoring on the evening, delivering an RBI single to score Ryan Dent for a 5-1 advantage.

Anthony Carter closed out the game for Pawtucket in the ninth, striking out two and stranding an inherited runner for Hernandez.

The Gwinnett offense was held to just one run for the third-straight game. G-Braves' hitters went a combined 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left five on base. Jose Yepez went 2-for-3 with a double, while Parraz's fifth inning homer accounted for the only run.

Lavarnway went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI for Pawtucket, while Holt added two hits and a run. Hamilton drove in two runs on his third home run of the season.

The Gwinnett Braves continue the series against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Tuesday night, first pitch at Coolray Field scheduled for 6:05 PM. Left-hander Daniel Rodriguez (1-2, 7.48 ERA) will take the ball for the G-Braves against right-hander Alfredo Aceves (1-0, 0.00 ERA) of the Red Sox. Listen to the game on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play.

Tuesday is "Boston Strong Night" at Coolray Field, as every ticket sold via the online link gwinnettbraves.com/boston using the promo code STRONG, $5 will be donated to OneFundBoston.org, benefitting the victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy.
