Viciedo Set to Begin Rehab with Knights Tonight in Columbus

(Fort Mill, SC) - Dayan Viciedo, who is currently on the Chicago White Sox disabled list due to a left oblique strain, will begin a Major League rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights tonight as the club plays the Columbus Clippers in Columbus, OH. Viciedo and the Knights begin a four-game series with the Clippers tonight at 6:35 p.m. from Huntington Park.
Viciedo was originally placed on the 15-day disabled list by Chicago on April 20 (retroactive to April 19). At the time, the Cuban native was hitting .229 with two home runs and five RBIs over 13 games. Last season, Viciedo hit .255 with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs over 147 games for the White Sox.
The 24-year-old outfielder played two seasons for the Knights from 2010-2011 and hit 20 home runs in back-to-back seasons. In 2010, Viciedo hit .274 with 20 home runs and 47 RBIs over 86 games. In 2011, he hit .296 with 20 home runs and 78 RBIs over 119 games.
Earlier this season, Viciedo was named as a member of the All Knights Stadium Team, a compilation of the best players to play for the Knights during their 24-year history at Knights Stadium. Viciedo played first base, third base, and right field during his time with the Knights and earned a spot as the utilty player on the All Knights Stadium Team.
Viciedo is the second White Sox player to rehab with the Knights this season. LHP Leyson Septimo appeared in two games for the Knights from April 26-29.
The Knights return home to Knights Stadium on Friday, May 10 to open an eight-game homestand against the Pawtucket Red Sox (May 10-13) and Louisville Bats (May 14-17).
