Storm fans that are eager to watch the team's newest picks in action against other top 1997 born players can attend the 2013 U16 OHL Gold Cup at Sportsworld Arena in Kitchener taking place May 9 - 12.
The U16 OHL Gold Cup is an annual event created to feature Ontario's top Under-16 talent. This event will not only showcase Ontario's talent, but is an evaluation and selection process for the Team Ontario. The top 68 players from the U16 OHL Gold Cup will attend the Under-17 Team Ontario Camp where the Team Ontario Staff will select 22 players to represent Ontario at the World Under-17 Challenge held annually in December. With eight teams and 160 players representing the ALLIANCE, GTHL, HNO, NOHA, ODHA and OMHA, the future of Canadian hockey is on display during the 20 games of the OHL Gold Cup.
Five of the Storm's 13 Ontario born picks from the recent OHL Priority Selection will participate in the four day event in May.
Team OMHA (Black) will feature first round pick Garrett McFadden and Tyler Boston (pictured) who was chosen in the fourth by Guelph.
Also taking part in the event will be third round selection Adam Craievich (Team OMHA White), Noah Carroll (fourth round - Team Alliance Grey) and Scott Villeneuve (sixth round - Team NOHA Green).
Rosters for the 2013 U16 OHL Gold Cup were announced on Tuesday at a press conference at the Holiday Inn Kitchener-Waterloo.
The 4-day event taking place May 9 - 12, 2013 at the Sportsworld Arena in Kitchener will feature 8 teams stacked with the top 160 Under-16 players in Ontario.
David Branch, Commissioner of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Wayne Salatino, Chairman of the Board for the Hockey Development Centre of Ontario (HDCO) and Phillip McKee, Executive Director of the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) took questions from the media along with a panel of guests, which included players who will be participating in the 2013 U16 OHL Gold Cup event including Travis Konecny, Dylan Strome, and Jacob Cascagnette.
"With the players now being named, you can sense the anticipation for the event to begin," said Phillip McKee. "We are expecting fast pace, great hockey at the Gold Cup and I'm confident the players who we just named will more than deliver that."
In addition to the fast pace hockey, on Thursday May 9th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm, The Bauer Experience will be making a tour stop where participants of the event and the public can hit the ice and try the latest Bauer skates, sticks, gloves and helmets for free.
