Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

Jackson's Abraham Almonte, one day removed from his spectacular cycle on Saturday, found another way to lead his team to victory Monday night at AT&T Field.

Having raised his average 40 points with his four-hit night Saturday, Almonte reached base five times in last night's twin-bill nightcap, picking up three walks and a pair of RBI hits in the seven-inning contest to give the Generals a split of the day, 5-4, and a win of the now-concluded five-game series.

Almonte's go-ahead hit came against Kyle Cofield (0-2), the third Lookouts pitcher in the game, with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh. Steve Kohlscheen (3-3) got the win with three strong innings of relief work for the Generals.

Only a pair of seven-inning games were in the works for the Chattanooga Lookouts and Jackson Generals Monday night, so far got a whole lot more baseball than they bargained for, as the opener lasted a full 11 innings.

But much more than that, they got to see the Lookouts' much-talked-about Cuban superstar-in-waiting, Yasiel Puig, deliver his fourth home run of the young season, a game-tying solo shot in the fifth inning of the opener. Then in the home half of the 11th, Joc Peterson singled, moved to second on a perfect sacrifice bunt from newest Lookout Casio Grider, took third on a wild pitch and came home a winner on Puig's walkoff single.

The Lookouts' bullpen had to work around a bunch of baserunners to preserve the deadlock, but Yimi Garcia, Hector Nelo and Luis Vasquez (1-0) combined to scatter five hits and three walks over five innings in back of starter Rob Rasmussen.

Forrest Snow (1-4), the fourth Jackson pitcher, suffered the defeat. Julio Morban had an RBI double for the Generals in the opener.

Jackson built a three-run lead in the nightcap as Lookouts starter Onelki Garcia battled the strike zone early on, walking three and hitting a batter in 2.2 innings.

Blake Smith began the rally in the home fourth with his second hit of the game, a double against Generals starter Antony Fernandez. Walks to J.T. Wise and C.J. Retherford loaded the bases and a ringing line drive by .190-hitting Omar Luna untied it. An RBI single from seldom-used catcher Jan Vazquez brought the Lookouts all the way back.

While the Generals were being held in check by reliever Aaron Miller, the Lookouts moved ahead in the fifth. A towering fly ball from red-hot Joc Peterson, the Southern League's Hitter of the Week, turned Generals right fielder James Jones around twice as he awaited its descent. But it landed in the right field bleachers for his team-leading sixth home run.

Jones got his payback, driving in his second run of the game in the visitors' sixth to tie the game. Miller, a starter last season but working exclusively from the bullpen this year, lasted 3.1 innings and threw 67 pitches.

For the Generals, Kyle Hunter earned his first save with a strikeout of Peterson, who was ejected after the game ended by plate umpire Alex Ransum.
