Oil Kings win over Hitmen

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings notched a Game 2 victory with a 6-0 decision over the Calgary Hitmen Friday night at Rexall Place.

Henrik Samuelsson opened the scoring for Edmonton, while Martin Gernat extended the lead mid-way through the third period with a power play marker. In the final six minutes of regulation, Gernat added his second of the night followed with goals from Curtis Lazar, Ashton Sautner and former Hitmen forward Trevor Cheek.

Calgary goaltender Chris Driedger, relieved by Mack Shields late in the third period, stopped a combined 44 of 50 shots.

The Hitmen killed off nine-straight Edmonton power plays to start the game, holding the score to a 1-0 Oil Kings advantage after 40 minutes. Calgary finished the game with a total of 101 penalty minutes, going 3-for-14 on the penalty kill and were scoreless on their four power play opportunities.

The Husky WHL Eastern Conference Championship series, now tied at one, shifts to the Scotiabank Saddledome for Game 3 on Tuesday, April 23 and Game 4 on Wednesday, April 24, with a 7 p.m. puck drop for both games.
