Nidiffer Returns for Second Season

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums return a key cog to the roster for the 2013 season as catcher Marcus Nidiffer returns for a second year with the Beach Bums.

In 2012, Nidiffer became just the third catcher in team history to play 70 or more games behind the plate. The right-hander hit .241 with nine homers and 38 RBI while guiding the pitching staff to a 3.52 team ERA.

Nidiffer joined Traverse City following a year-long stint in each of the Astros and Angels organizations. In 2010, he combined to hit .286 with 14 homers and 36 RBI during 69 games with the Greeneville Astros (Appalachian - Rookie) and Tri-City ValleyCats (New York-Penn - A-). For the 2011 campaign, Nidiffer hit .230 with six long balls and 24 RBI in 68 games as a first baseman for the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Midwest - A).

The native of Bristol, TN played his college ball at the University of Kentucky where as a senior, he batted .320 with 10 homers and 35 RBI as a senior. As a junior he posted a .312 average with 10 homers and 32 RBI. For his career with the Wildcats, he hit .284, smacking 25 homers and driving in 84.
