Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

You need 27 outs to win a nine-inning ballgame, and the Chattanooga Lookouts came up one short Tuesday night.

Birmingham catcher Michael Blanke touched Lookouts closer Yimi Garcia for a two-strike, two-out, two-run double in the ninth inning to edge the home team 4-3 in game two of a five-game series. The Dodgers' Class AA affiliate (3-8 in the Southern League West) was on the verge of winning its second straight game of the current homestand, posting single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-2 lead.

Gorman Erickson contributed his first home run of the season, a two-out shot in the fifth, behind the effort of Lookouts starter Chris Reed. Right-hander Reed, the Dodgers' 1st-round pick in the 2111 draft, was in line for his second win of the season by working six strong innings. The Stanford product struck out five and was touched only for a two-run home run by the Barons' Tyler Saladino in the second inning.

Strong relief work by Gregory Infante (two innings, one hit) set up Garcia (0-1) for the save. But in the ninfh, Andy Wilkins opened the top half with a walk and gave way to pinch-runner Cody Puckett. Brandon Short failed to bunt the tying run over, but Dan Black singled it to third and likwise gave way to a pinch-runner. Saladino flew out to right, but not deep enough to score the run. That brought up Blanke, who brought in both pinch-runners with his fourth double of the season.

Taylor Thompson (2-0) earned the win, working two innings, allowing only a lone two-out baserunner when Erickson was hit by a pitch.

Staked to the 2-0 lead, Birmingham starter Spencer Arroyo could not stand prosperity. In the fourth inning, the Lookouts finally broke through when Yasiel Puig doubled and scored on a hit by J.T. Wise. Erickson's homer tied the game in the fifth, and the Lookouts took their lone lead of the night when Joc Peterson stole third and came home on a throwing error.

The Lookouts hold their first Business Day Special Wednesday bright and early with first pitch scheduled for 11:15. Andres Santiago (1-1, 0.82) is scheduled for the Lookouts against Birmingham's Erik Johnson (1-0, 0.77).
