
Smokies Use Longball to Take Down Stars

The Tennessee Smokies hit three solo home runs and withstood a late rally to take down the Huntsville Stars 4-3 at Joe Davis Stadium. With the win, the Smokies are back to .500 at 6-6.
Alberto Cabrera (2-1) earned the victory for the Smokies tossing the first six innings while allowing just two runs with five strikeouts. Ariel Pena (0-2) suffered the loss surrendering three runs, all on solo home runs, in five innings of work.
The Stars tried to rally late for the second straight night but came up a run short. Christian Villanueva made a diving play to deny a base hit with two runners aboard and preserve the Smokies lead.
Justin Bour put the Smokies in front in the top of the 2nd with a leadoff solo home run, his second of the season, for a 1-0 advantage. Matt Szczur's first home run of the season in the top of the 3rd inning doubled the Smokies lead.
Rubi Silva provided the third solo shot for the Smokies in the top of the 4th inning to up the lead to 3-0.
Huntsville got on the scoreboard with a solo shot of their own in the home half of the 4th. Kentrail Davis connected with his first home run of the season to bring the Stars within two at 3-1. The Stars got within a run in the bottom of the 5th after Jason Rogers singled home Nick Shaw to make it 3-2.
The Smokies got an important insurance run in the top of the 7th. Rubi Silva led off with a single and moved to second on an error by Davis. Christian Villanueva came up next and doubled home Silva for a 4-2 lead.
The Smokies and Stars continue their five-game series tomorrow morning at 11:43 a.m. ET when Tennessee sends left-hander Eric Jokisch (1-0, 1.50 ERA) to the mound against Huntsville righty Taylor Jungmann (1-1, 9.82 ERA) at Joe Davis Stadium.
