Jones' Sac Fly Leads M-Braves to Victory

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves defeated the Jackson Generals 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Trustmark Park, breaking a six-game losing skid. The series continues with game three at 11:00 AM Wednesday.

Mississippi (4-8) scored two runs on five hits while Jackson (6-6) plated one run on six hits. Phil Gosselin led the M-Braves offense with two hits and a run scored. Christian Marrero drove in the tying run and Mycal Jones drove in the game-winning run.

Jackson took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when James Jones tripled and scored on a Vinnie Catricala single to center field.

The M-Braves responded in the bottom of the frame. Phil Gosselin doubled and scored when Marrero doubled to right field, tying the game at 1-1.

Braeden Schlehuber led off the seventh with a double to center field. He took third on a Barrett Kleinknecht sacrifice bunt and came in to score on a Jones sacrifice fly, giving the M-Braves a 2-1 advantage.

Ian Thomas (2-1) worked an inning and two-thirds to pick up the win. Forrest Snow (1-2) suffered the loss, pitching two frames. Ryne Harper (S, 3) worked an inning and a third to pick up his third save of the season.

Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision. J.R. Graham worked six innings for the M-Braves, limiting the Generals to just one earned run on six hits and two walks. He struck out seven batters. Brett Shankin tossed six frames for the Generals. He gave up one earned run on four hits and two walks while fanning two.

The M-Braves take on the Generals in another school day special at 11:00 AM Wednesday morning. M-Braves lefty Alex Wood (0-1, 2.00) counters Jackson lefty Roenis Elias (0-1, 4.09). Gates open at 9:30 AM.
