Seattle Reign FC News Release
Seattle, WA - Seattle Reign FC will play its first-ever regular season match on Sunday against the Chicago Red Stars at the Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, Illinois. The match starts at 3pm PT (5pm CT).
The Chicago Red Stars feature USA National Team midfielder Shannon Boxx, as well as former UWWNT midfielder Lori Chalupny, who scored four goals during the Red Stars pre-season matches.
One player not lining up for the Red Stars is Keelin Winters, who Reign FC acquired from Chicago before the start of pre-season. Winters is a former midfielder on the USA U-23 squad and one of twenty-three players from the US allocated to NWSL clubs earlier this year.
Reign FC will be without two of its forwards for the match. Tiffany Cameron, a Canadian international who was signed as a free agent earlier this year, will be unavailable while she completes her studies at Ohio State University. Forward Lindsay Taylor traveled with the club to Chicago, but will also be unavailable for the match as she recovers from an injury to her eye suffered during training last week. Taylor is expected to resume training next week and should be available to play in the match on April 21 against Portland.
"Throughout our pre-season matches in Japan and our training in Seattle the squad has demonstrated the commitment and passion that it takes to win at this level," said Laura Harvey, GM and Head Coach of Seattle Reign FC. "They play with a heart and scrappiness that I think our supporters are going to love. And we've got a couple of kids that are going to be real surprises to the league. We can't wait to hit the pitch on Sunday."
The match against Chicago will be streamed live at www.ReignFC.com and will be available on-demand by visiting the NWSL channel at www.YouTube.com/NWSL.
The opening home match, against FC Kansas City, will take place on Saturday, May 4 at 8pm at Starfire Stadium. Prices for single match tickets are $26 for Grandstand Premium seating, $22 for Grandstand seating and $19 for Bleacher seating. Tickets can be purchased online at www.reignfc.com.
