Walters Off To Peoria

Brandon, MB. -- The 2012-13 hockey season will continue for at least one member of the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings.

Veteran defenceman Nick Walters is off to Peoria later today where he will join the Rivermen for the balance of the American Hockey League season.

An 18-year old native of St. Albert, Walters was acquired in January from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for blueliner Ayrton Nikkel and the rights to Taylor Sanheim of the Yellowhead chiefs.

In 28 games with the Wheat Kings, the 6'2" 195 lb blueliner had nine assists and 36 minutes in penalties. Overall, Walters had a goal, 19 points and 106 penalty minutes in 64 games during the 2012-13 campaign.

A fourth round draft choice (116th overall) of the National Hockey League's St. Louis Blues, Walters has scored seven goals, 41 points and 253 penalty minutes in 173 career WHL games.

The Rivermen, coached by Dave Allison, are currently 30-29-4-3 on the season and sit in 12th place in the AHL's Western Conference.
