Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Winterhawks will take on the Everett Silvertips in the first round of the WHL Playoffs, beginning Friday at the Rose Garden at 7 p.m. Portland was 9-1 in 10 meetings against Everett this season, outscoring the Silvertips 50-22, with two shutouts. Six Hawks reached double figures in scoring in the season series: Nic Petan with 18, Brendan Leipsic with 17, Ty Rattie with 13, Seth Jones with 12, Troy Rutkowski with 11 and Taylor Leier with 10. The Silvertips' leading scorers against Portland this season were Landon Oslanski and Reid Petryk with seven points each.

It's the second time in three seasons the Hawks and Silvertips will meet in the playoffs, and third time since Everett's inception in 2003. Portland eliminated Everett in four games in the first round of the 2011 postseason, while Everett won a first round matchup in 2005 in seven games, a series in which five of the seven games were decided by one goal.

Brendan Leipsic and Nic Petan finished the season tied for the league lead with 120 points apiece, the first time since 1987-88 the scoring race finished in a tie. With Ty Rattie coming in third with 110 points, it's the first time three teammates have occupied the top three scoring spots since 1978-79.

Mac Carruth etched his name into the record books once again with two more franchise marks. He finished the regular season with a save percentage of .929, a new single season record, and a goals against average of 2.06, tying that mark. Both records were previously held by Blake Grenier in the 2004-05 season (.926 save percentage, 2.06 GAA).
