
IceDogs Down Spitfires 9-4

The Niagara IceDogs, coming off a big OT win in Belleville last night, dominated the Sunday afternoon matchup against the Windsor Spitfires, 9-4.
The first period of the game got off to a quick start for the IceDogs as Brett Ritchie would score his first goal of the game only two minutes in. Steven Shipley would strike next, at 6:02, to give the IceDogs a 2-0 lead. Windsor would cut the IceDogs lead to one, scoring on the powerplay to make it a 2-1 game. Niagara would not be fazed however restoring their two goal lead quickly, with Carter Verhaeghe hammering the puck home, on the powerplay, at 11:20. Before the first period would come to an end, Mitchell Fitzmorris would net the IceDog's fourth goal of the frame and his first as an IceDog, making it a 4-1 Niagara lead heading into the second period.
The IceDogs had another quick start in the second period as Carter Verhaeghe would score his second goal of the game 26 seconds in to make it 5-1. The second period was characterized by hard fought battles as Windsor would battle back and net three quick goals to make it a one goal game at 5-4, 12 minutes into the period. Undeterred, the IceDogs would remain focused and at 12:59, Jesse Graham would score to again stretch the IceDogs lead to two. With three minutes left to play in the period, Ryan Strome would rip a point shot past Windsor goaltender Jaroslav Pavelka, on the powerplay, to give the IceDogs a 7-4 lead after 40 minutes.
The last period of play saw tempers flare as the IceDogs continued pressuring a tired Windsor team. At 6:16 in the period, Brendan Perlini would score to extend the IceDogs lead to 8-4. Niagara would continue their strong play and strike once more as Ritchie would pick up his second of the game at 11:13 to give the IceDogs a big 9-4 victory!
The IceDogs will be back at the Jack on Thursday, March 7th where they will play host to the visiting Mississauga Steelheads at 7pm. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
