Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - The RailCats patient and pesky leadoff hitter will return for a fourth season, as the RailCats signed outfielder Adam Klein.

Klein, 29, is already one of the most accomplished RailCats ever, ranking first in franchise history in career on-base percentage (.404), second in batting average (.294), second in stolen bases (76) and third in walks (206).

Klein added to his legacy in 2012 by setting the single-season team record for walks with 82, smashing his own mark of 71 the previous year.

In 99 games last season, Klein batted .285 with a .410 on-base percentage, 49 RBI and 72 runs, while going 30-for-41 in stolen base attempts. The left-handed hitter led the team in on-base percentage and stolen bases and finished second in runs scored. Klein led the American Association in walks and was in the top 10 in on-base percentage and stolen bases.

In the outfield, the Los Angeles native used his speed and strong arm to tie for the league lead with 11 assists. He also broke the league record for putouts in a game by an outfielder with nine on May 30 against Sioux Falls.

Klein was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 48th round of the 2007 draft out of Cal-State Los Angeles. He spent two seasons in the organization and reached Double-A. He then played for one year with the Joliet Jackhammers in the Northern League in 2009 before being traded to the RailCats that offseason. In his six-year career, Klein has a .282 batting average and .407 on-base percentage while averaging 27 stolen bases.
